Metz Culinary Management is once again hosting a holiday pie sale for its diners in the K-12, higher education and healthcare segments.

The foodservice provider began selling pies in 2010 as way to make purchasing dessert for holiday gatherings a little easier for guests.

“The main reason for the pie sale was to make it more convenient for our guests and partners to be able to get holiday pies and avoid some of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season,” says Maureen Metz, executive vice president of Metz.

The pie sale runs from Thanksgiving through Hanukkah, Christmas and Kwanzaa. Guests are able to choose from a variety of pies, including apple, pumpkin, caramel apple walnut and pecan. In addition to the pies, some sites also sell pumpkin rolls, nut rolls, cookies and other desserts.

A caramel apple walnut pie is one of the many pies for sale during the holidays.

In the past, some Metz sites who have participated in the sale have seen their dessert revenues increase by 26%, according to the foodservice provider.

The sale is popular among all segments due to the pies’ taste and quality, Metz says, but it has really struck a chord with K-12 and higher education diners due to its convenience factor.

“Over time the pies have become very popular with teachers, professors and administrators in the education segments for the ease of order and pick up,” says Metz.

College students are also able to purchase the pies through their meal plan.

In addition, some sites use the pie sale as a way to raise money for charity. In the past, the team has raised funds for organizations such as Adopt-a-Family, Helping Hands and more.
