Another hospital closes a McDonald’s, citing health concerns

In an effort to encourage healthy eating options and reduce disease, Allina Health is ending its lease with its 24-hours McDonald’s on May 31, 2016, kare11.com has learned.

The quick-service restaurant is located inside the Abbott Northwestern Hospital, a part of Allina’s health care system, which will also eliminate all sugar-sweetened drinks and offer healthier choices in vending machines, as well as remove deep fried foods from its cafeterias and cafes.

"About 70 percent of all disease, nutrition is a big impact and factor so we want to be able to demonstrate to our patients and employees, we believe in health inside and outside, particularly to the community," Dr. Courtney Baechler, cardiologist at Allina, told the website.
