Bill allowing whole milk in schools passes U.S. House

Chef Ann Foundation’s PLANTS grant looks to strengthen local school food system

The program will award $500,000 and $600,000 in grants to eight projects that seek to transform their local supply chain to bring local scratch-made meals to schools.

The district will be experimenting with meals made from scratch early next year as part of a pilot program.

Five organizations will collectively receive $1.1 million in grant money to research barriers to federal child nutrition program participation and identify ways to increase access.

Under SB 720, public and private schools that participate in the National School Lunch Program and National School Breakfast and serve students free breakfast and lunch each day would be eligible to receive additional funding from the state. 

The foodservice provider works with over 10 local farms who dedicate a portion of their land to grow crops just for Chartwells K12 schools in New England.

The lawmakers argue that Maui students should receive free meals at school due to the destruction of the wildfires that hit the island in August.

The Child Care Nutrition Act would increase the reimbursement rates for all CACFP-eligible meals and snacks served by 10 cents.

The district is using vanilla, maple and other extracts and powders to bring flavor to recipes without any added sugar.

The foodservice provider began selling pies in 2010 to provide a convenient way for diners to purchase dessert for their holiday celebrations.
