NH elementary school raises breakfast participation by 42 percent

School breakfast participation at William Allen School has increased by more than 42 percent, earning it runner-up status in the New Hampshire School Breakfast Challenge, fosters.com reports.

Officials in the Rochester, N.H., district say they saw an uptick after making the food presentable. "We try to arrange it in a colorful way so it looks more appealing," the school’s foodservice director, Holly Clement, told the website.

Clement says other contributing factors for the rise in student participation included knowing staffers' efforts to learn students' names, as well as menu items such as a breakfast pizza and cinnamon smoothie.
