A Nebraska lawmaker has introduced a bill that would set up a farm-to-school network in the state.

Introduced by Sen. Tom Brandt, LB396 would direct the State Department of Education to oversee the network, which would connect area farmers with schools in an effort to get more local food into school cafeterias.

The network would also enable students to participate in educational activities such as farm visits, cooking demonstrations, school gardening, composting and more.
