NC district raises lunch price to cover wage hikes

For the first time in six years, school lunches at Wake County Public School System in Raleigh, N.C., will cost more, ABC 11 reports.

The 25-cent price increase is due to state-mandated wage increases, Child Nutrition Services Director Paula De Lucca said.

"Interestingly enough, the 25-cent increase only matches the cost to provide the additional wage increases and the bonus from last year, so we still have to do really well to use our resources to the best of our ability," De Lucca told ABC 11.

Upping the cost by 25 cents will cause parents to pay an extra $45 annually if their child purchases lunch each day.
