Chicago schools team up with a private company to promote health

CHICAGO — Chicago Public Schools has partnered with insurance provider IlliniCare Health to bring GoNoodle, an interactive technology that helps students engage with health and fitness, to 65 city elementary schools. The selected schools were identified as needing help meeting CPS’ LearnWELL goals, which promote student wellness via physical and nutritional education.

IlliniCare Health has agreed to fund GoNoodle at those 65 schools through the 2015-16 school year. Teachers at Willa Cather Elementary School, located on Chicago’s southwest side, say the technology has already made a difference for their students, particularly those without access to nutritious food, recreational sports, and safe parks and play areas.

“GoNoodle aligns with CPS' LearnWELL initiative and has been very successful in helping our school provide increased opportunities for students to get active during the school day, in addition to physical education and recess,” said Willa Cather Principal Wanda Carey.
