A student at Wisconsin-based Hayward High School was recently fined $200 for taking a second lunch, myfox8.com reports.
The incident, which took place Dec. 14, was not the student’s first time taking seconds, as he was given warnings for the same thing in the past, according to the website.
A written brief reported that the school’s head cook pressed charges against the student, but Hayward Superintendent Craig Olson disputes that claim, The Current says.
Olson told FSD via email that although he can no longer discuss the incident, the school allows no child to go hungry.
“We work really hard to develop relationships with all students and families,” he said. “No student goes home hungry if the right process is followed. We have unlimited fruits and vegetables and an unlimited salad bar. We also have a very giving community that provides numerous opportunities for students in need."
