Farmers help schools celebrate NSLW

The Kansas Department of Education has teamed up with various associations representing dairy, pork and wheat farmers for National School Lunch Week, says The Topeka Capital-Journal.

This week, a diary farmer will visit students at Cottonwood Elementary School and a wheat farmer will visit Schwegler Elementary School.

Robin Stuewe, health and wellness manager for the Midwest Diary Council, told the Journal the partnerships are an opportunity to increase students’ interest in locally sourced foods and educate them about where their food comes from.

"I think it's a great opportunity for Kansas to show and highlight the agriculture we have," Stuewe said.
