Student committee starts campaign for food stamp-friendly campus

A student committee has begun a campaign to make the University of Wisconsin-Madison food stamp friendly, reports The Daily Cardinal.

The initiative proposed by the Associated Students of Madison Legislative Affairs Committee would permit students to use food stamps in dining halls and other campus eateries, allowing them to eat with their peers and ultimately removing any “awkward” situations, according to the student newspaper.

Currently, the Wisconsin legislature is reviewing a bill calling for all higher education institutions in the state to be food stamp-accessible, says the Daily Cardinal. If the university advanced the initiative, it would be among the first five institutions in the U.S. to do just that.
