After backing out of its contract with Elk Grove Township Elementary District 59, Sodexo and the Illinois district have reached an agreement that will allow students to receive breakfast and hot lunch for the remainder of the school year, reports the Chicago Daily Herald.
With a new 27-day contract, the district will pay Sodexo 60 cents more per hot lunch and 69 cents more per breakfast than under the original contract. That increase will not be passed onto students, Vickie Nissen, the district’s assistant superintendent of business services, told the Daily Herald.
Sodexo, which had been the district’s vendor for two years, said it backed out of the original deal because it was on track to lose $1 million over two years if it stayed the course.
Since receiving state approval for the temporary contract, Nissen said the district will find a new foodservice provider for future school years.
