Menu prices dropping at Western Illinois U.

Student input, operational consolidation drives move to lower prices by 15% to 20%

MACOMB, Ill. — The cost to attend college may be going up, but the cost to eat at one local university is actually going down.

Western Illinois University unveiled a new menu this year to student diners, one with significantly lower prices.

John Biernbaum with WIU's Student Services says they have reduced costs by 15 to 20 percent on most of the 14,000 dining center items. The changes come after the university received feedback from students stating they felt they weren't getting the best bang for their buck when it comes to food.

"Students were very clear to us," Biernbaum said. "They wanted flexibility, they wanted food quality and they wanted value for their dollar. That's what we gave them with this."

On average a meal at WIU has been lowered by about $1.
