ASHLAND, Wis.—One of the ways the School District of Ashland is working to reduce childhood obesity issues at Lake Superior Elementary School is through the efforts of Gilbert Schwartz and Nathanael Secor, nutrition educators who work in the Farm To School Program.
The two work with school children in kindergarten through fifth grade. One of the things they do to attack the problem of child obesity is to help get the children excited about local foods and where the food comes from.
“Basically, we are promoting nutrition education, but one of our main objectives is to revamp the school garden,” said Schwartz.
