Hospital system starts culinary apprentice program to help with staffing

Advocate Aurora Health, a hospital system with locations in Illinois and Wisconsin, has started its own chef apprentice program to help with staffing, CBS Chicago reports.

Participants in the the three-year apprenticeship receive on-the-job training as well as classroom instruction on topics such as food safety. Apprentices are also given vacation and healthcare benefits and are paid over minimum wage.

After completing training, they are invited to take full-time positions with the hospital.
