Foodservice workers say they were ‘bullied' into contract agreement

EASTON, Pa. — At least six Easton Area School District food service workers say they feel tricked by an agreement last year in which their jobs were outsourced to another company.

On Tuesday night, they took their concerns to the school board, but came away without any answers.

The board voted last year to allow Chartwells School Dining Services to take over cafeteria duties at Easton Area schools starting this year.

Under an agreement between the company and union food service workers, the employees would get to keep the same hours and salary. But that hasn't been the case, employee Kim Marzouli told the board.

We've been lied to through this whole process," she said, "bullied to vote yes, to the point that everyone was scared they weren't going to have a job."

Among the employees' complaints: the company has added an extra half-hour to their schedule, showed favoritism by allowing one employee to remain with the district, made health care costs unaffordable, and cut off access to workers' old e-mail accounts.
