Lauren Teng, administrator for food and nutrition service at Huntington Beach Union High School District in Huntington Beach, Calif., has been named the Golden Director of the Year by the Foodservice Achievement Management Excellence (FAME) Awards.
With over 30 years of experience as a foodservice director, Teng has spearheaded the district’s foodservice efforts to streamline operations and expand its menu. Teng has transformed the school’s cafeteria into a food court with fresh entrees as well as monthly themed lunches, and she also started a nutrition education curriculum that is offered at 40 schools.

- Christopher Burkhardt, executive director of food and child nutrition services for Cleveland Metropolitan School District (Silver Star Leadership Award)
- Sally Spero, child nutrition director for Lakeside Union School District in Lakeside, Calif. (Silver Star Special Achievement Award)
- Karen Hallford, assistant director of school nutrition for Gwinnett County Public Schools in Suwanee, Ga. (Silver Star Spirit Award)
- Kelly Schlein, nutrition services director for Richmond County School District in Augusta, Ga. (Silver Star Rising Star Award)
- Beth Mincemoyer Egan, senior instructor of hospitality management at Pennsylvania State University in University Park, Pa. (Friend of Child Nutrition Award)
