Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District in Newman, Calif., will begin serving meals to seniors in the community, Westside Connect reports.
Starting this July, the meals will be served at a nearby adult education center and will be available for those aged 60 and up.
The meals will be cooked in bulk at one of the district’s high schools by staff members and then delivered warm five days a week. As part of its one-year contract with the county's Department of Aging and Veterans Services, the district will receive money to fund just over 4,000 meals at a $5.75 reimbursement rate for each one served.
The district says that if it exceeds the meal limit, it will make up the difference by donations and through the operating margin it has built into the contract.
