J. Michael Floyd, associate vice president for auxiliary services at the University of Georgia (UGA), retired this month after 40 years with the state university system.
Floyd began his foodservice career as a student manager at Valdosta State University. He was that university’s foodservice director from 1979 to 1986, when he came to Georgia to be its foodservice director.
During his tenure as director, Floyd won the Richard Lichtenfelt Award in 1994 for outstanding service to NACUFS and an IFMA Silver Plate Award in 2002. Since Floyd has been at UGA, the foodservice program has won a record 72 Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards from NACUFS.
Floyd was honored by the University of Georgia chancellor in 2007 with the Service Excellence Award for an Outstanding Leader. He was promoted to associate vice president in 2012.
