House Cafe chooses 'Freedom'

Growing international tensions over U.S. military action in Iraq are beginning to spill over onto the menu boards at the U.S. House of Representatives' cafeteria.

Angered by France's opposition to the Bush Administration's war policies, House Administration Committee Chairman Bob Ney (R-OH) directed the Congressional cafeteria in the House Longworth Building to delete all reference to "French fries" on its menus.

At a Capitol Hill news conference in the cafeteria, Ney announced that these items will be identified as "freedom fries" on menus. French toast was similarly renamed "freedom toast."

At presstime, Russian dressing was still being offered in Congressional cafeterias, but it is not clear whether it will be served on china.
