Woburn Middle School’s lunch debt has dropped $3,000 from last spring’s level, but there’s still $8,000 to be recovered, according to the Daily Times Chronicle.
Officials from the district’s Finance Subcommittee say that in recent years the problem has worsened, not only in high school leve, but on the middle school level as well, reports the Chronicle.
Though the district does have a policy to freeze delinquent students’ cafeteria privileges, it has instead opted to give those students a basic lunch and prevent them from choosing items from the full menu.
Recently, Columbia Public Schools scrapped their proposal for an “alternate meal” of a cheese sandwich, apple and water for students with school-lunch debt, after receiving backlash from parents, as reported by FoodService Director.
