Compass charts Univ AR plans

Compass Group North America will provide a gift of $2.5 million to the Univ. of Arkansas, Fayetteville, for the construction of a new dining facility in the Northwest Quadrant Housing building—a 600-bed residence hall complex and dining facility scheduled for completion by summer 2004.Vice chancellor for student affairs Johnetta Cross Brazzell points out that the flexibility of the Marche concept planned for the space is important since students tend to become bored rather quickly. "The division of student affairs strives to create an on-campus community with a variety of educational opportunities from which students may choose. Positive out-of-class experiences translate into even better in-class experiences and aid in student recruitment and retention.

Compass Group's generous gift to build a new dining center will give our students another valuable resource to aid in their overall educational experience," she asserts.

Upper class welcome: Bill Zemke, Chartwell's resident d.m. for Compass' Chartwells div. at Fayetteville, notes that the new dining facility will serve a base of 1,300 students on meal plans (for others it's one price for all-you-can-eat), primarily upper classmen who have priority points as to where they can live. Chartwells' programs including Market Carvery, Trattoria, Fresh Grill and Garden Emporium will be featured with the emphasis on exhibition cooking.

The dining area will be visually divided into three or four sections with seating provided for approx. 380. Eventually, the adult conference market is expected to be targeted for summertime utilization of the facility.
