During Major League Baseball’s All-Star Week, two chefs from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have been collaborating with the foodservice team at T-Mobile Park, home of the Seattle Mariners.
The chefs—Kevin Fletcher from Howard University in Washington, D.C., and Jossie Saintil from Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Fla.—will help feed upwards of 47,000 fans and athletes throughout All-Star Week, which kicked off on Friday with the first HBCU Swingman Classic.
Fletcher and Saintil worked with Jeff Leidy, SVP regional executive chef for Sodexo Live!, to add culinary twists from their university towns to lunch items offered for the Classic, which showcased 50 college baseball players from Division 1 programs.

“I’m excited to collaborate with these talented culinarians who will bring another layer of excitement through meaningful, inspired dishes to this inaugural MLB All-Star event,” Leidy said in a statement. “We’re happy to highlight African American talent on a national stage and support the creation and investment in new opportunities to level the playing field for all professions within the game of baseball.”
