Jan. 6—Considering how picky many children can be about what they eat, it’s probably not surprising that the Ball-Chatham School District has seen a drop in school lunch sales since switching to a healthier, made-from-scratch menu at the start of the school year.
The average number of lunches served each day at Glenwood Middle School, Glenwood Intermediate and the district’s three elementary schools from August through December was down about 15 percent compared to the same period last year, according to district figures.
Despite the drop in sales, district officials say they have no plans to deviate from the program aimed at introducing healthier, more natural food into students’ diets.
