Extending a deadline

FoodService Director seeks nominations for second annual Goldies Awards.

Readers have spoken, and we’re responding. The deadline for the 2012 Goldies Awards has been extended to Dec. 15. We still are asking that readers send their entries to our offices at 90 Broad Street, Suite 402, New York, NY 10004.

Over the last couple of weeks, we have received several calls and emails from readers with questions about the awards program, now in its second year. Some people had simple questions, such as whether entries must be received by the due date or merely postmarked by that date. Others asked specifically for an extension, due to the time needed to complete their videos.

In addition, we recently completed a move of our editorial offices. Even though the move was internal—from one floor to another within the same building—we were concerned that the change in offices might cause a delay in entries reaching us.

For those two reasons we decided to give readers another two weeks to complete and mail their entries. One reader asked whether she could send her video and entry to us electronically, something we allowed last year. The reason we switched to “snail mail” delivery was that some entrants experienced problems getting their videos loaded onto the entry site and we, in turn, ran into trouble trying to watch some videos.

So, if someone sends us a video in an electronic format, I certainly will not reject it. However, I still recommend sending us hard copy, on DVD or flash drive, just to be sure.

We eagerly await your entries. Winners will be announced at the close of our MenuDirections conference in late February, so be sure you make plan to attend the only conference that focuses entirely on the menu needs of non-commercial operators.
