Pineapple Rum BBQ Sauce

This savory-sweet barbecue sauce from Koloa Rum Company works with any type of protein, and especially well for International Pineapple Day (June 27).
Ingredients
20 oz. can crushed pineapple
1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
1" piece of ginger, peeled
1/2 cup rum
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
Steps
1. Add crushed pineapple and juice, teriyaki sauce and peeled ginger into food processor or blender. Blend until smooth.
2. Pour mixture into sauce pot. Add remaining ingredients and stir together; simmer for 15 minutes, until sauce thickens. Store in airtight container.
Tips
For a smoother sauce, blend finished sauce with immersion blender until smooth, about 30-45 seconds.
