L.A. Unified School District adds new local food items to menu

The Los Angeles Unified School District uses 50% of its food budget on local food.

We did a team-building activity I called shoe “shopping.” We each described what type of shoes we like and why.

The federally mandated standards require schools to reduce the amount of fat, sodium and the number of calories in each meal.

Howard Street Charter school's new menu features gluten-free and vegetarian options, plus meals are served with organic fruits and vegetables.

Trends include eggs, legumes, Greek yogurt and more.

A letter was sent home to parents stating that students can only bring lunches from home if there is a medical condition and a doctor's note.

A survey of students at Fairfax County Public Schools shows that 79% of students strongly disagree with the statement, "I usually like the food served in the cafeteria."
