Youngstown City School District receives grant to expand access to produce

Youngstown City School District in Youngstown, Ohio, has received a $228,000 grant to provide more produce options in its cafeterias, The Vindicator reports.

The district received the grant from the Ohio Department of Education. School officials will use the funds to continue to provide healthy snacks to students three time a week using produce such as carrots, blueberries, yellow squash and grapes.

The district is also participating in next month's Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch, an event where students will get to try regionally or locally grown apples.
