Wis. research group proposes expanding NSLP to colleges

Low-income college students would have access to meal assistance under a proposal to expand the National School Lunch Program by the Wisconsin Hope Lab, a policy and research organization at the University of Wisconsin.

Authors of the proposal—which would provide meals to nearly 7 million Pell grant recipients—say expanding the federal program would increase students' chances of graduation, as hunger can have adverse effects on college graduation rates, reports diverseeducation.com. 

“Investing in college students by offering them the food assistance they need to do well in school has immense long-term potential,” the proposal states.
