USDA lauds Colorado district for health and nutrition

USDA officials and the Colorado Department of Education visited Greeney-Evans School District 6 Thursday to commend its nutrition services director for providing healthier local food to students, reports The Tribune.

Officials noted that Jeremy West—the district’s nutrition services director—and his staff serve 9,000 meals a day, 25 percent of the district’s food is locally sourced and 75 percent of lunches are made from scratch.

“We think this is one of the best districts in the state in terms of what they do for the health and nutrition of the kids,” said USDA Food Nutrition Services spokesman David Von Behren.
