Cal Dining Executive Director Shawn LaPean will retire from his post at the University of California at Berkeley this summer, FoodService Director has learned.
LaPean, who received an IFMA Silver Plate Award in 2008, has been with the university since 2003. Prior to that, he served as operations director for the dining program at Nashville’s Vanderbilt University.
Under LaPean, UC Berkeley’s dining program has been recognized for its food and sustainability efforts, and last year opened the first certified kosher and halal-friendly station among University of California schools.
His retirement will be effective July 1.
