Harrisonburg City Public Schools in Harrisonburg, Va., is partnering with local farmers to provide locally sourced school meals in celebration of Virginia farm-to-school week, WHSV3 reports.
During lunch this week, students are enjoying ingredients sourced from nearby farms such as apples, peppers and onions. The district has also invited farmers to schools to speak to students about where their food comes from.
The Virginia Department of Education celebrates farm-to-school week during the first week of October each year. It's intended to raise awareness of foods produced in the state.
