More than 50 Northwestern University students stood in solidarity with the university's dining hall workers in a demonstration Monday afternoon, according to The Daily Northwestern.
The students marched to the on-campus offices of Sodexo, the campus’ foodservice provider, and presented a petition with more than 1,000 signatures to Julie Payne-Kirchmeier, associate vice president for student affairs.
In the petition, students asked for such benefits for foodservice workers as a guaranteed 40-hour week, benefits for part-timers and increased wages, The Daily reports.
Union representatives for the foodservice staff will meet with Sodexo Tuesday to discuss contract negotiations.
