Physicians’ group calls out hospitals with fast-food outlets

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is calling out hospitals across the country with Chick-fil-A outlets in a billboard campaign called “Eat More Chickpeas,” reports Healthcare Finance.

The health advocacy group representing 12,000 doctors says hospitals should promote healthy eating and wellness, and fast food is not an example of that practice.

The committee has also placed ads in local bus shelters to target hospital staff using public transit, and has even put advertisements in several nearby cities’ buses, such as Charleston, S.C., says Healthcare Finance.

“Many of the hospitals that host Chick-fil-A are in states with high rates of diet-related diseases, making hospitals part of the overall toxic food environment,” Angie Eakin, a member of the committee, told the website. “Hospitals should be fast food-free, and patients should eat more chickpeas, vegetables, fruits and other foods that can promote healing and prevent disease.”
