Pa. district rolls out plans to boost breakfast participation

Penn Hills School District has teamed up with a local food bank and nonprofit Allies for Children to draw students into the cafeteria for breakfast.

Through the Round Two Breakfast Program, PHSD allows students to miss homeroom and eat breakfast in the classroom, while the Pennsylvania Breakfast Challenge—a state program—encourages schools to increase their breakfast participation by 30 percent. Schools that are successful are rewarded in the spring with prizes, reports triblive.com.

Officials say the cafeteria will have events and giveaways some mornings, and offer more enticing breakfast items, including breakfast sandwiches, yogurt and smoothies.
