NY district opts back into the NSLP due to increasing deficit

Greenville Central School District has decided to return the National School Lunch Program after opting out 18 months ago, The Daily Meal reports. 

Officials say they are rejoining the program in the upcoming school year because there was not enough participation—which fueled a growing deficit for its foodservice—to offset the lack of federal funding received when participating in the NSLP.

“While the students seemed to like the food better, the loss of federal aid was just too much of a loss,” Duncan Macpherson, a member of the district’s board, told the website.
