Mich. prisoners protest food quality under new provider

Nearly 1,000 inmates at Kinross Correctional Facility in Kinross Charter Township, Mich., staged protests over food quality early this week, reports The Detroit News.

Inmates held a silent protest Sunday evening, and a majority did not come to breakfast, lunch or dinner Monday, according to the site, adding that the inmate staff had trouble “maintaining consistency” with meals that had been recently added to the menu.

Trinity Services Group—which replaced problem-plagued Aramark as the foodservice vendor about eight months ago—has since brought in supervisors to work with inmates about their complaints. Attendance for meals returned to normal by Tuesday, prison officials say.
