Chipotle’s problems raise food-safety fears

Three out of four consumers surveyed during Chipotle’s food-safety crisis say they worry the whole quick-service segment isn’t paying enough attention to food safety, according to a new study.

The research by Packaged Facts also found that 46 percent of the public is more concerned today about food safety. The majority (53 percent) of consumers, however, say their level of worry hasn’t risen despite intense coverage of Chipotle’s E.coli and norovirus outbreaks and Starbucks’ recall of some sandwiches.

The information is based on surveys conducted during November and December, while authorities were still gauging the impact of the outbreaks in the Pacific Northwest and Boston.
