Students at Chicago’s Roosevelt High School have started a boycott and a petition drive to get more of their preferences on the lunch menu, reports Yahoo News.
“We want bigger portions, more nutritious food, and [food] partly handmade from scratch,” Shirley Hernandez told Yahoo. She calls it “a human right to have decent food.”
Aramark, the district’s contracted foodservices operator, told Yahoo that it has not received any direct complaints from students or staff about the lunches, but said it would investigate.
Chicago Public Schools is looking into the matter as well, stating in a release “the health and wellness of our students is among our top priorities, and we will look into the students’ questions about their meals.”
