We decided we wanted to expand our employee of the month program to allow staffers to nominate someone outside the department. That person is rewarded with a pizza party or ice cream party. Our first Employees of the Month outside the department were from nursing, and it was a great breaking-the-silos moment. We’re not focusing just on our interpersonal relationships, and it gets groups of people aligned in the right direction.
