Vegetable sommeliers give nod to Microsoft cafeteria

The Japan Vegetable Sommelier Association gives the tech company's Tokyo's One Microsoft Café the first certification for an office cafeteria.

TOKYO—Its smartphones may trail in market share, but Microsoft Corp.’s office cafeteria leads the pack in its abundant use of vegetables, according to the Japan Vegetable Sommelier Assocation.

The software giant’s lunchroom, One Microsoft Café, has become the first office cafeteria to receive approval from the association.

“We are hoping to provide better support for our employees and their health” through the new cafeteria, which opened after renovations earlier this month, a spokesman at Microsoft Japan said. The menu includes dishes with seasonal vegetables, and fresh produce is also available for employees to purchase and take home, he said.

The cafeteria, located inside Microsoft’s office building in Tokyo’s Shinagawa area and operated by Aim Services Co., is open only to company employees.
