Students at Bell Middle School in San Diego shared their thoughts on potential new menu items earlier this month at San Diego Unified School District’s first-ever ‘Taste of San Diego Unified.’
The event, which was hosted as part of the district’s Farm to School Month celebrations, had students sampling a variety of items that could be added to the menu next school year, including yogurt parfaits with roasted apples, plant-based nachos with roasted corn dip and kung pao chicken.
Along with trying the new dishes, students also learned about the district’s farm-to-school program, sustainability initiatives and more.
“We want to give our students an opportunity to engage in our menu-planning efforts and try new flavors,” Alicia Pitrone Hauser, food and nutrition services director, said in a statement. “This event is a great way to recognize National Farm to School month and celebrate our student voices, community connections and local food.”
