Boosting appetites via Snapchat

Some universities’ dining departments have become early adopters of Snapchat’s My Story (a feature that allows photos to be posted for 24 hours on a user’s feed) to share daily menus and promotions with students. Here’s how three are using the feature.

We have mostly been using [Snapchat’s My Story] during our residential dining events, but we also use it as an alternative to Instagram or Twitter to show images of different menu items in our dining halls.

We encourage our students to stay active by hosting random promotions and giveaways on our Snapchat. For example, a Snapchat promotion will read: “Post your favorite theme meal event to win a free travel mug.”

—Sherylyn Tucker, Marketing and Communications, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, N.J.

We like to use Snapchat for [dining] deals. We’ll tell you that Jamba Juice is offering this special, for a limited amount of time, and you’re going to be the only one who knows about it because you’re following us on Snapchat.”

—Robert Flynn, New Media Coordinator (Aramark), Boston University Dining Services, Boston
