Board officials defend one Pennsylvania school district’s food

HANOVER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Hanover Area Superintendent Andrew Kuhl and school board President Joe Steininger said there is nothing wrong with the food being served to district students.

“We found everything to be of top quality,” Steininger said at Thursday’s school board meeting. “Everything was healthy and prepared properly.”

Steininger said he and Kuhl made unannounced visits to each school in the district after a former Metz Culinary Management employee criticized the quality of the district’s food at last month’s meeting.

Steininger said they spoke with food service workers and didn’t hear of any problems other than some equipment issues, which he said would be addressed in the future.

Last June, the district approved a one-year contract with Metz, with four additional one-year terms. Metz replaced Aramark, which was the district’s food service provider for 25 years.
