Texas schools to lift ban on deep fryers

After a 10-year long ban on deep fried food, Texas is reintroducing it in school menus, because eating fried food should be a choice that children can make.

That was the basis of Texas Agricultural Commissioner Sid Miller’s decision to reintroduce deep fried food and sodas into the school menus. He feels that the children should ultimately be given the chance to choose, because America is the land of the free.

The ban on deep fried food and sugary sodas has been introduced in public schools in order to reduce the obesity rates among school children. Numerous studies have shown that this strategy can definitely improve the obesity rates, even if the children stay clear of fried food only during school hours.

Furthermore, the data suggests that by eating good quality healthy food at school, the children actually do eat more outside of school hours as well, because they actually realize that fried food and sugar are not the only delicious options out there.

However, it seems that those who do not find the healthy food better tasting have quite a strong opinion on their right to choose, because they have caused the subject of banning fried food in schools to become heavily debated for years and years.
