Texas school district hires chef

Killeen ISD administrators hope move will improve quality, healthfulness of school meals.

KILLEEN, Texas—The Killeen Independent School District hired an experienced chef this school year to improve meals in the schools.

The decision to bring on the additional help was prompted by a lack of students eating breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria last school year.

Kelly Angell, who is the district's new chef, also owned a restaurant in Salado with his family.

He moved to the Killeen area with his wife and two children, which is why he felt compelled to take on the position in KISD.

"They're going to be eating in the school systems and I really wanted to help that improve," said Kelly Angell, KISD chef.

The school district has already seen improvements in the number of students eating in school over the last couple of months.
