ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. — The cafeteria at Russell Medical Center defies many of the stereotypes associated with hospital food, as evidenced by the number of visitors from the community who eat there regularly.
But for a little while, those folks will have to make some alternate dining plans. Beginning today, the hospital’s cafeteria will be closed for public dining for about two months as the facility undergoes a massive renovation designed to make it even better, according to Russell Medical Center’s Director of Marketing Susan Foy.
“We have had a very loyal group of people from the community who have dined with us on a regular basis,” Foy said. “We can’t thank them enough, but in order for us to do all that we have planned we have to close all but the kitchen to pull it off.”
The hospital will have the kitchen open to feed patients and offer a few carry out items for employees, but will have no dining for the public. There will still be some vending items available elsewhere in the hospital.
Foy said while it will be inconvenient for a short time, she said the finished product will be worth the trouble.
