National Food Service Management Institute changes name, logo

The National Food Service Management Institute has been renamed the Institute of Child Nutrition, after center officials determined a name change would better reflect its mission to promote the continuous improvement of child-nutrition programs.

Officials stated that the new circle “i" logo will connect the institute’s 20-year history to a “fresh and energetic new look” that coincides with its mission. The institute, which was established by Congress in 1989 and is housed at the School of Applied Sciences at the University of Mississippi, is funded by a grant administered through the USDA.

“(When we were founded), this name served us well,” said Dr. Mary Frances Nettles, director of the Applied Research Division, in a statement. “But as child nutrition programs have evolved, it has become necessary to rebrand our image to meet the diverse needs of child nutrition programs across the country.”
