Indiana hospital adds healthier food options to menu

IU Health Arnett Hospital has removed about 75% of unhealthy desserts and replaced the items with healthy alternatives.

LAFAYETTE, Ind.–Employees and patients at IU Health Arnett Hospital are getting a different kind of dining experience.

“The choices that we have are much better choices, they’re fun choices,” said Chief Operating Officer Brian Shockney.

Fun choices and much healthier choices, as IU Health hospitals across the state have adopted the Partnership for a Healthy America Program. The government-funded program aims to reduce the rates of obesity across the country.

“Hospitals are healthcare institutions, so we need to be concerned about people’s health,” said Shockney.

Shockney said they’ve accomplished that goal by removing deep fryers from the kitchen and adding more fresh fruits and vegetables.
