Hospital Chooses Paper Over Plastic

May 28-Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Kansas has eliminated plastic water bottles from the foodservice department and introduced an environmentally friendly packaged water option. The new water is packaged in 74% paper that is primarily derived from renewable and sustainable resources.

"Lawrence Memorial Hospital prides itself in its healthcare and community leadership," said Debbie Miers, director of food and nutrition services, in a press release. "Offering green products and wares in a cafeteria is a responsible step for people's health and the health of our planet."

In addition to the new bottled water alternative, the hospital has introduced other sustainability initiatives, including increasing the facility's energy efficiency and recycling.
