Hospital café becomes beloved community restaurant

Former patients and area residents regularly visit hospital just for food.

Sept. 13—The highest compliment the dining team at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital can recieve is when they see past patients coming out of their way to dine at the hospital.

Former patients and local community members eat at the hospital because they consider it one of the best and most reasonably priced places to dine in the San Gorgonio Pass. Pass residents meet regularly for breakfast at the hospital cafeteria. Others visit the hospital for lunch or dinner. John Alcantar, director of food and nutrition services, estimated that 8 to 12 people come to the hospital daily for no other reason than to eat. Many are from the nearby Sun Lakes senior development. He said complete meals, with a drink, tend to cost about $5.50.
